Overview Join an LDS tour to Muyil Mayan ruins and explore the pristine Chunyaxche lagoon that surrounds this incredible site! Few are the pre-Hispanic sites of Mexico where besides being able to admire its ancient temples you can also enjoy a unique natural environment, combining the lush vegetation and the turquoise blue of the Caribbean Sea. Such is the case of Muyil Archaeological site, ancient Mayan city that is located only 20 minutes south from Tulum and 1.5 hrs of Cancun. It is one of the 20 most important archaeological sites because of its size and amount of architectural remains detected within the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve in the state of Quintana Roo. Muyil, whose name comes from the vocative of one of the two adjacent sheets (Muyil and Chunyaxché), represents one of the environmentally best preserved sites of the protected reserve, a fact that makes it an attractive place for those interested in knowing our history and living with Nature Continuing through the paths surrounded by the abundant wild vegetation, the astonishment arrives at the moment one meets a temple of 17 meters high known as El Castillo and at the top has a temple that resembles a turret, which makes it an atypical structure for the region. Although not many of the buildings in Muyil have been restored, it is a nice little site to visit. It is not well known, so chances are you will be on your own. The visit to Muyil could not conclude before the lagoon that named the archaeological site and that it is located only a kilometer away. There, it has a viewpoint that can climb and have a panoramic view of the lagoon and its connection with the Caribbean Sea. It is a natural spectacle, where the calm and transparent water of the lagoon of Muyil, is united with the strong and bluish the waves of the open sea. Availability This tour is available every day.
