The Descending God has been so named by the archaeological community because he is always shown with his feet in the air as if he is descending from the sky. Many people, including anthropologists, archaeologists, and guides have erroneously stated that the Descending God is found only in Tulum, this has been done out of ignorance – or in some cases, a simple desire to skirt the entire issue of the Descending God and what he potentially represents. If Christ, having been resurrected, descended from heaven to visit the Maya, He would have come in great glory, and the event would have been so singular that its depiction would have been repeated over and over throughout the Mayan world. That is what we see with the Descending God. Rather than being a God only seen in Tulum, we have found that there is no other Mayan deity as prevalent throughout the width and breadth of the Mayan world as the Descending God. Over and over again he is shown in the attitude of descending from the heavens. Chichen Itza a Wonder of the World The City of Kukulkan, the God of the Feathered Serpent Chichen Itza (meaning at the mouth of the well of the Itzaes) was once considered the Capitol of the most powerful Mayan empire known as the "Itzaes" who ruled extensively throughout the Yucatan peninsula and some parts of Tabasco. The city was founded in the year 514 BC although recent excavations performed in the year 2009 reveal a previous settlement dating back to the years 150-100 BC. The highlight of the tour is the majestic Kulkulkan Pyramid, built for the worship of Kukulkan - the God of the Feathered Serpent. Kukulkan was known to the Aztecs as Quetzalcoatl, and both civilizations agree on the same physical appearance, a "White Bearded God." This temple was built meticulously considering cardinal points, stars, and the rotation of our planet and other planets of our solar system. There are Legends and stories told on the carvings of this building. Today it has been declared by the UNESCO as one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. At the ruins of Chichen Itza, you can visit magnificent temples such as the Kukulcan Pyramid, the Observatory, The Temple of the Columns and the Ball Court. It was also declared a World Heritage Site in the year of 1989 by the UNESCO. You shouldn’t miss this tour when coming to Mexico! Availability This tour is available from Monday to Friday.
