This time Alma’s LDS Tours wants to tell you how were the origins of the LDS church in Mexico. The second country in the Americas, after the United States, which accounts for the largest number of members belonging to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The early Mormons, who traveled to Mexico in 1876, were established in the states of Sonora and Chihuahua. Ten years later they began to carry out missionary work. The Mexican first stake was founded in 1895 in Colonia Juarez Chihuahua. Subsequently, the spread of our faith in the north continued to grow successfully.
By 1912 there were more than 4,000 members. However, the expansion to the Midwest was interrupted due to political impositions of the Mexican government, relating to any religious practice in the Mexican territory. It was not until 1961, when it managed to organize the first stake in Mexico City. From 1971 to 1981 he founded over 61 stakes and built the First Temple in the San Juan de Aragon.
Currently our church has organized more than a hundred stakes across the country and 13 temples built in Guadalajara, Ciudad Juarez, Chihuahua, Sonora, Oaxaca, Tampico, Chiapas, Monterrey, Merida and others respectively.
