The Book of Mormon | LDS Tours in Cancun

The Book of Mormon is one of four books accepted by the Church of Latter-day Saints. Since its publication in 1830, has blessed the lives of many people worldwide. It is a faithful witness to the existence of Jesus Christ and reaffirms the truth of the Bible. For this reason, Alma’s LDS Tours like to share some information about its origin.

In 1823, Joseph Smith was visited by a heavenly messenger named Moroni. This angel told him about the existence of a written record on gold plates containing the full gospel of Jesus Christ and realizes the great civilizations, known as Nephites, Lamanites and Jaredites, who populated the Americas. The people crossed the seas in the holy land and with the help of God landed in the territory by the south of Mesoamerica, what we now know as Mexico and Guatemala.

Four years after the first visit, the plates were delivered to Joseph Smith, who transcribed and translated to English language by using heavenly knowledge. The Book of Mormon was published under that title because “Mormon,” the old prophet who was in charge of compiling the records.

The Book of Mormon has a similar style to the Holy Bible, Joseph Smith referred to about the struggles of honest people trying to live according to God’s commandments. A very interesting and inspiring section recounts the visit of Christ to the Americas shortly after His resurrection.

During his visit Christ invited people to touch his wounds and performed miracles among them. Twelve men also gave the same authority as his apostles. Nephites and Lamanites peoples managed to live in peace for a while; however, 421 years after Christ, the Nephites were destroyed by the Lamanites.

Moroni, son of Mormon, was responsible for preserving the records written by the Nephite prophets, as well as summarize the record of the Jaredites and Nephites add them to the records made by his father, and then write their own testimony and concealing records. In order to be preserved until it is restored again the order of the church on earth.
